Last night the Philadelphia Flyers paid tribute to Ed Snider, their founder, at the first home game of their playoff series against the Washington Capitals on April 18th 2016.

The heartfelt tribute included a lot of great photos and audio clips of Snider, detailing his passion for the sport and his love for the city that he called home.

The Wells Fargo Center erupted with cheers and applause for the man that, at just 33 years-old, brought hockey to Philadelphia.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said;

"Ed Snider was the soul and the spirit of the Flyers, who have reflected his competitiveness, his passion for hockey and his love for the fans from the moment he brought NHL hockey to Philadelphia in 1967."

In addition to this video tribute before the game, the ice behind each goal was painted with Snider’s initials.

The Flyers, who made a late push this regular season in order to make the playoffs, wanted their founder to see one more playoff run. Although they waited until the final weekend of the regular season to make their move, the Flyers made good on their promise.

Current captain of the Philadelphia Flyers, Claude Giroux, said this;

“He is the Philadelphia Flyers.”
