Yesterday night, on Sunday 24th April 2016, NHL ice hockey team the Minnesota Wild paid tribute to their state hero before their playoff game against the Dallas Stars.
The tribute, which took place just before the American national anthem at the beginning of the game, included a beautiful slideshow of photos and an on-ice light show adorned with purple set to his most famous song ‘Purple Rain’. Exuberance fit for Prince himself. The crowd responded with a mountain of applause for the musician from Minneapolis, just over 8 miles from the twin city of St. Paul where the game was being held.
In addition to this, the Wild also changed their goal song to Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ for the night. Although they eventually lost the game 5-4, they must have loved the song enough to put four goals past Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen.
